How to presentate for Acadec

  1. Read and understand assigned pages in Resource
  2. Think of interesting lesson plan, OR a lesson plan that would best convey info to decathletes
  3. Look at and do Focus Quiz for your particular section, and ASSIGN it as homework!!
  4. Have Fun
  5. If you have it typed up, send it to me so I can post it on blogspot.
What we learned today, a bunch of magnetic formulas. Thank You Sharon! (:

F = qvB

F = force

q = quantity of charge

v = velocity

B = magnetic field

ϕ = BA cos θ

ϕ = magnetic flux

B =magnetic field

A = Area

θ = angle between velocity and magnetic field vectors

B = (µI) / (2πR) or = (MI) / (2πR)

B = magnitude of magnetic field

I = current travelling through a wire

R = distance from wire

µ or M = constant = 1.26 ´10-6

E = (Dϕ ) / (Dt)

ϕ = magnetic flux

t = time

New Stuff.

So I've added new authors to the blogspot:
  • Diana Tran and Kristy Duong. (Anyone is really allowed to post, for legitimate reasons. Work is done on pretty much a volunteer basis.)
  • I need someone to be test printer, someone who just goes to the copy room and prints stuff. Let me know if you want to help!
  • I really like this (:
Notes for Today:
Momentum and Work
Momentum is the anything associated with collisions. COLLISIONS. COLLISIONS. COLLISIONS. means MOMENTUM.
p = mv momentum = mass*velocity in the units of kg*m/s.
You can apply this in everyday life. Something with large mass, and low velocity has high momentum. E.g. You should be afraid of a slow charging elephant, because of MOMENTUM.
Likewise, something with small mass and high velocity has high momentum. E.g. Be afraid of a fast bullet, because of MOMENTUM.

MOMENTUM is always conserved.

Impulse = change in momentum
Dp = Ft impulse = Force · DTime
Take a air hockey puck for example, if you transfer the momentum for a long time, you won't have to hit it as hard. Basically, the change in momentum is affected by force and time. Let's take seatbelts. Seatbelts increase the time for you to hit the windshield so that the force isn't as great.

Elastic collision
Inelastic collisions.

Basically what we did today, Study.

Okay, we've started. Here's what you've missed:

Okay so lately, we've been having meetings every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. We've only covered Economics. This is the breakdown:

Economics

Standards Background

The National Council on Economic Education (NCEE), in partnership with the National Association of Economic Educators and the Foundation for Teaching Economics, has outlined a set of curriculum standards based on the essential principles of economics. This document, titled Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics, includes twenty content standards, each of which were developed by a panel of economists and economic educators

USAD and the Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics

USAD’s 2011–2012 economics curriculum addresses all twenty of the NCEE’s Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics:

STANDARD 1: Scarcity
STANDARD 2: Marginal Cost/Benefit
STANDARD 3: Allocation of Goods and Services
STANDARD 4: Role of Incentives
STANDARD 5: Gain from Trade
STANDARD 6: Specialization and Trade
STANDARD 7: Markets – Price and Quantity Determination
STANDARD 8: Role of Price in Market System
STANDARD 9: Role of Competition
STANDARD 10: Role of Economic Institutions
STANDARD 11: Role of Money

There are 9 more standards though, we'll cover them on Monday.
And Next Meeting is Monday, October 3, 2011. Bring your Heart of Darkness book, preferably read. Cool, Thanks.

Summer School

Summer school is scheduled for the 22nd of June! 2:00 PM. Olivos' room. Any conflicts? Tuesday through Friday!

We'll be working scheduling next year.
enjoy your summer, while you can!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Today's meeting.

Speeches. Speeches. Speeches. Do your speeches!
For the good news, thanks for doing your speeches today. Especially Anthony Vo.
Next time, Megan Wang and Diana Tran, you guys are going up!

For Banquet, we're looking at June 8th? or else maybe June 12th? What is happening on those Days. Location: Petrillo's.

For Summer school, I just sent an email to Mr. Olivos concerning times. So wait up on that.

Next meeting should be in the summer. I'll keep posting, but not too much so I won't annoy you guys. Cheers.

AP is over.

How was AP testing, guys?
So it's your "break" time! One week. Yup, long enough!
Except don't forget to write your speeches! Next meeting is MAY 23rd.

MAY 23rd.

Speeches that day. I will have Popsicle sticks of fate. So be prepared....

And again. This is how it works. You can write about any topic you want. Any speech that shows off your speech skills. Eye contact. Hand gestures. Clarity. Volume. All of it.
But, in the case that you don't have a speech, I will give you a topic, the very topic that you picked with me a couple of weeks ago. ): You're going to have to speak about it for 4 minutes. And if you run out of things to say... you're going to stand there. Awkwardly. While I record. Seriously.

Happy Writings!

Topics Thread

I wanted to start a post on speech topics. Maybe it might inspire!

A device, a method to switch bodies, and it's effects on society. You might talk about how switching two bodies, like you and a person from Africa or China, would affect those people.

Talk about how messed up the world is. for budget cuts, we can still construct because of lobbying efforts. New books and teachers don't get votes. But construction does. And for physics textbooks. They'd be 10 times more efficient if they'd be on CD's. But do CD's make money? No, books do. I'd say, more like a waste of money.

How are your speeches coming along? :O

No More Meetings until Monday, May 23rd.

(IF YOU WERE AT THIS MEETING, YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ THIS):

Everyone who came signed up for a speech topic, and so everyone must write a speech.
This is how it's going to work.
On speech day (now designated for May 30th), people are going to give speeches. And it can be about anything! And those of you who have a speech will do it, and those who don't... will have to stand in front of us, and stand there for 4 and a half minutes, trying to talk about the topic they picked and fail, thus embarrassed. SO WRITE YOUR SPEECHES.

(Everything after this.... you don't have to read it, but I felt like blogging.)

Think of it as a rant, maybe. You are explaining to three judges on something that just angrifies you. It enrages you. Or think of it like a social thing, where you really just want to express yourself to the class, to the teachers, to the judges, TO THE WORLD!

Everything after this, DON'T READ.

Teddy Tea trims his ten toenails tuesdays only.

Okay, new thing for me is to update blogs on wednesdays.

Guys, I am deeply saddened.
Why aren't you guys asking about the blog or more importantly, me updating the blog?
Don't I matter to you guys? ):

Just kidding, alright.

So, although idle as a blogger, I have been hard at work, trying to prepare for next year.
I am currently creating a day by day schedule for next year. Yep, and I
am planning to have a fun first day, so come on April 11th. Don't worry, we'll just slightly start up, get to know each other, and then I will let you guys go because I know everyone wants to study for AP exams. We are going to start writing speeches in that week, so prepare! Think of subjects.

I am also currently working on a short intro to economics. I need one or two volunteers to help me!
Please tell me by March 16th!
Volunteers
  1. ______________
  2. ______________

Oh, and quick note to self:
Leo hasn't claimed his jacket.
Aaron's jacket needs mending
I owe John $2.
Tru needs his jacket.

Competition was fun BTW. And I have pictures.

Yes, I picked this picture because I wanted to feel awesome. Oh, the power of the blogger.

Okay, and these are the competitors. Look how they are just overcome with JOY!
Nice group picture with Mr. Olivos!
Anthony, what were you doing?

Stomach ache -UGHHHHH!!!

Okay, so competition was decent. Maybe we might be better than last year.
Success, we had 8 people show up, an improvement from last year's 7!

It was fun, we played NINJA and STOMACH-ACHE UGHHH!
Good job to those who went! (: Hopefully it was enjoyable! How was the In N Out?

For me, my impromptu topic was John Goddard made a list of 127 exciting and adventurous things to do. It was alright.

And for my speech, I talked about controlling children. I will record it maybe, and I'll keep it for next year.

Interview was alright. They asked me, "Who do you know that interests you the most?", "What has Academic Decathlon done for you?", "Is there anything else you would like the tell me about yourself?"

Comment on the competition PLOCKS. SO that we can tell competitors next year.

These people still need to play for their jackets:
John Hoac
Leo Chen
Tru To
Kevin Gip

I love you all,
